Typhoon Rananim

wenzhou typhoon.bmp

We returned to Qingtian just in time for the typhoon brewing off the coast. Albeit the advice from Jiu Li Wei and others not to leave home unless it was an emergency we organised a dinner with the men. Summer is an unusual time to have a hot pot, but as the weather was not condusive for a BBQ and all open air restaurants closed we went back to our favourite Lamb Hot Pot restaurant.

Of all the people we invited only one declined the offer due to it being unsafe, the ever sensible Mr Steele. The rest of us braved the weather and wind. Our favourite outdoor restaurant was 2m underwater, the river had risen 3.5m and for only the second time the whole river was full.

News has it that some 63 people died and about 2000 injured, the construction going on near the school survived, unfortunately the little huts where the workers live all lost their rooves.
