June 30, 2004The Road to Bei Shan
As previously said the road to Bei Shan is crap. On our return to Qingtian this morning we had the bus driver called "Julio". It seems sequins are the new black in Bei Shan - everyone is wearing sequins men and women. Julio knew only two speeds to his bus flat out and stopped. The road is terrible and in most parts is one "lane" I use the term loosely. We were hooning along causing havoc to other drivers when all of a sudden the bus is stopped. Julio very unhappy with the gentleman who stopped us was chatting fiercely with him. I assume he was saying "Look mate there is no traffic coming I'm driving my bus whether you like it or not!" KABOOM!!!! That's right some demolition work was being carried out on the road. They were trying to widen the road and to do this they had to cut into the side of the mountain. Now with Julio's driving, the constant heat and the bad road I had just about guaranteed I was not going to make it back to Qingtian without some story, but I would never had guessed the bus would be in an explosion. After we passed the explosion area we were in another traffic jam of every vehicle you could think of. I got out to walk into the built up area to buy some water as I was sure we'd be there for a while. On my return every person on our bus was walking towards me. What the???? It seems Julio's clutch riding had put an end to this bus ride. We had broken down. Comments
