Moroccan Surprises…

I arrived safely in Morocco on Saturday…..my luggage did not…

I didn’t worry too much because half the people on my plane were missing their luggage. I would have been much more nervous if it was just my bag that didn’t show up. I did worry a little bit though…how could I not?
But to my utter joy, my bag arrived safely on Sunday, having taken a short vacation in Spain, and a trip to Casablanca on the way to meet me. (Apparently a good trip.)
There was a moment of panic at the airport as I sat next to the baggage carousel, the flight with my baggage having just arrived, waiting as one suitcase after another found it’s proper owner. I saw people from my flight excitedly grab their bags and head off while I sat, still waiting. Finally, my backpack made it’s appearance, like a fashionably late entry to a party…it was the very last bag off the plane! I grabbed it, did a little dance, skipped through security and was on my way.
In the afternoon Zakaria and I had lunch with his upstairs neighbors, a lovely show of hospitality that newarly busted my tummy. When I’d already had enough of the delicious chicken stew I was urged, again and again, to keep eating. This lead to a rather unfortunate incident where I ate….a chicken heart! (Um…ick!) When I asked Zak what it was he insisted it was chicken…he just didn’t say what part. He admitted to tricking me into trying something new…but, really, I’m not one for organ meat. Well, each trip brings new culinary experiences I guess, and to be fair it wasn’t THAT bad…it just felt weird…totally unlike chicken. I’m still alive 24hrs later though, so I can’t complain.
Oooh….and lunch was finished off with the yummiest drink/soup made with oranges, cucumber, carrots and spices. Served cold it was an absolute treat…and helped to beat the heat of midafternoon. I can’t wait to make it at home!
Today we’re off to the police station to register me as Zakaria’s guest, so that he doesn’t get hauled off to jail…again. Then, I think, a bit of shopping. I’m anxious to hit the souk!
That’s all for now…I’ll keep you all posted on my (mis)adventures.
