we have experienced so much….
from bustling Bangkok to the unnerving border crossing, from the eerie grandeur of Angkor to the fire and the almost-stampede, from the even-busier-than-Bangkok Phnom Penh to Kampot, from dogs to dead rats, from the hospital to the rubbish dump, from almost-no-food to special dinners and late night icecreams….
oh yes, we have had some great travelling experiences. Remember the aeroplane delay, the tuktuk getting lost in Bangkok, the super-speedy BKK tuktuk, the the boat up and down the river, the train ride out of Thailand, the taxi ride to Siem Reap (we’ll never forget that one, will we!?!), the bus we almost missed, the bus that came too early, the tuktuks to the ??saltfields?? (and we’ll remember Mr Yellow Shirt, won’t we!), the “minibus” (small bus, not a van, all for ourselves), and perhaps most memorably, the last tuktuk ride: 13 of us in one machine.
Travelling in close quarters in a foreign country where everything is strange and unfamiliar and even uncomfortable with an extra eight kids (oh, didn’t you love the look on that lady’s face when we told her you had twelve kids Charles?) would not be everyone’s choice for a summer vacation, but we are so glad you finally decided to come. We have grown together as friends, learnt lots together and about each other (we’ll never cook banana – promise), parented together and had a fantastic warts-n-all experience. You were wonderful travelling companions and we’d do it all again. But you’ll have to extend the next invitation, because we’re not sure whether or not you are going home saying “We’re glad we did it once, but we’d NEVER do that again!” Just like coconut 😉
