Alls well that ends well

i feel incredibley guilty for not letting you all know that despite tsunamis
in areas all around me – Borneo in Malaysia has not been affected.

i am in Kota Kinabalu for a few more days, i’ve been here a week, before
heading to Bangkok for NYE – and to meet up with people on their way back to Australia.

On my first day here i met a guy from melbourne who has been travelling for
four years including 9 months in india/nepal – so i got heaps of tips and we
hung out on one of the islands and went snorkelling (which this time was total magic: multi-coloured coral and about 30 different kinds of fish that gather
around you – its like being in outerspace – i couldn’t stop gasping in delight
at every turn when a new school would catch me off guard).

Then my mum arrived and we have been living in luxury (well she has, i’ve
been staying at a bed bug ridden, cheap and nasty backpackers in town and
commuting to her resort daily for poolside action, paragliding (i saw turtles), spa/sauna, smorgasboard christmas lunch (over 3 hours – totally amazing), urang-utan sanctuary, more island hopping and snorkelling, and today to mount kinabalu, but not to climb, just to witness.

The most bizarre thing in malaysia has been malay women randomly throwing
themselves on me (without any discussion, draping over me like i’m a statue)
to have their husbands take a photo. Not sure if they think i’m famous or
what, but it happened in KL and again here. interesting. . .

its been luxurious and definitely a treat, but i look forward to getting back to thailand and really travelling again. Not sure of my actual plans yet (surprise). But i’ll see who i meet and where i’m led – i love not having an itinerary.
