Tick, tick….

Before I get TOO comfortable sitting here…in my parents’ house…unemployed…and in my pajamas until 1pm, I think I’d better hop on a plane. My pre-trip preps have been a bit unusual—getting fingerprinted for the FBI, playing football til I cramp, watching an eye doctor do minor surgery, camping in the backyard with feather pillows, and writing requests for documents ranging from proof of an Oklahoma OT license to the syllabi for my college coursework (?!)—all requirements for New Zealand OT registration, Unite for Sight volunteer program, or….being an Aunt Bimpy. ; ) However, the familiarity of this packing scene is a little frightening–an eruption of multi-seasonal clothing covering three rooms, wrinkled pages of to-dos and packing lists littering the floor, “important” papers and files peeking out of boxes and sock drawers. My consolation–is it?–is that soon all I’ll have and need will be on my back. The challenge has been packing for 3 months rather than 3 weeks. At least I think I have the essentials covered:

–laminated paperdolls of my niece and 3 nephews so they can accompany me and have some adventures of their own (hope they’re not too mischievious)
–Turkish pistachios (a gift from my dad who claims–through research–that they’re the best in the world)
–months’ doses of malaria meds to hopefully gift me with enough vivid dreams to fill a journal
–ziplocks zipped inside freezer bags filling up grocery bags stuffed into garbage bags….my mother’s influence on being “well-prepared”
–spray repellent, wipe-on repellent, “bug badges,” and a sleep sheet to make an optimistic barrier between me and the leggy creatures of Asia
–anti-itch cream, oral anti-histamine, and concealing clothing to deal with the effects if they still find me
–Snicker bars and at least 3 kinds of anti-nausea meds to deal with the effects if they’re fed to me : o

Think that means I’m ready!!! : D
