Venice – Italy
Venice was really neat. The floating city, and everything is done by water. I have a picture of a dump truck garbage removal boat… so everything.
The city itself is purely for tourist, I don t think anyone is actually there for any other reason. Shops galore, lots of masks in every store, apparently theres a costume festival at some point.
I was impressed by jolly camping campsite. We were in dorms, 4 of us, with a bathroom. It had a restaurant, pool, bar, separate shower halls, so much nicer than just about most hostels. There was an unusually large number of Canadians there, and some from Calgary in our dorm.
Well, trying to avoid most museums and churches, there s almost nothing left to do there. I took a tour, that had a deceiving description, and ended up in a museum the whole time. Then i went to some other ones that were included in a pass that we got from the tour. There was a nice beach, a short demo on glass blowing, and the rest of the time spent walking around or by boat.
52nd annual ragata was going on with a water festival. They closed the grand canal for the last day I was there. There was a costume parade from the 4 competing cities, really nice traditional costumes. Knights, princesses, and several similar type costumes. Some of it was cut short by extreme weather, but the race went on. Pisa won the regata.
Next entry, Florence.
