More on the emmys; Backstage at the emmys.. Highlight; “The always reliable Jon Stewart (star of Best Variety Series The Daily Show) delivered some necessary irreverence after the show itself had ended, but before all the winners had made it backstage. So, Jon, any comment on all the censorship in the telecast? ”Did they [air] when I said ‘cock’? I had a huge ‘cock’ bit.” What are your plans for hosting the Oscars next year? ”I’ll probably lay off the Brokeback Mountain stuff. It probably won’t get nominated again.” If you were to interview O.J. Simpson in jail, what would you ask? ”Wait, he’s in jail? For the Vegas thing? [Pause] Is this how it goes down, Capone? You kill two people and they get you for knocking over a room in Vegas?”” Speaking of which… I just… words fail me.

Live blog of the red carpet highlight; “7:04 p.m. Following up on Steve Carell’s comment that money has made him evil, Giuliana asks for specifics. “We don’t have any more cats in the neighborhood,” says wife Nancy Walls. Someone get this woman her own sitcom already!”

Live blog of the ceremony highlight; “8:33 p.m. Okay, I decided to keep blogging. But I’ve also started drinking. (Yes, it’s Riesling…as per usual.) (And it’s just one glass.) (That was for my editor.)” And “And if you’re bummed about tonight’s results, not to worry: We can decry them for the next 365 days, while getting our hopes up for the 2008 nominations and awards telecast, then start the whole wretched process all over again when Boston Legal and Tony Shalhoub take home all of next year’s prizes. Fun!”

Awww – the funniest guys around

I stopped by the electronics store to check on power cords (expensive, I’m currently standing up to type on my highly angled laptop, and I think it’ll stay that way for a while). Anyways, apparently they decided not to restock the black 30 gig ipods. So they’re going to give me an 80 gig one (in silver) for the same price. Sweet. This means I’ll be able to back up all my travel photos on it when I get home. Yay!

Emmys!!!

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

OK – I’ll add some of the best moment’s from Popwatch’s live blogging of the emmys when I’m home and not doing work. BUT – the overall impression? Emmy voters suck. Thank god tv stars get a second chance with voters who have taste at the golden globes. Why do I say this? At the golden globes you get Steve Carrell and Hugh Laurie giving delightfully witty speeches. At the Emmys, you get James Spader and Ricky Gervais. Ok – Ricky Gervais is sometimes funny, and I guess its nice to have an unexpected upset by someone ok, but James Spader?!? JAMES SPADER? Really, emmys?

At least I was spared sitting through the ceremony, which sounds like it was bizarrely terrible (not unexpected, given the host). I’m sure everyone after that is looking forward to the golden globes and Oscars (yay Jon Stewart!!!)

I’m ok with 30 rock winning best comedy, because the one ep. I’ve seen of it was funny (“he took advantage of my white guilt, which is to be used only for good, like overtipping and supporting Barack Obama”), and it really needs a ratings boost to stay alive, unlike the Office which is going strong.

Other awfulness; Jeremy Piven over Rainn Wilson, Jaime Pressly over Jenna Fisher (yes, Jaime is very funny, but not nearly as brilliant and subtle as Jenna), Katherine Heigl (I could’ve seen her win this for season 2, but from all the reviews I’ve read about season 3, her character was supposed to be terrible. I mean – I like the actress, but given that the voters are voting on the shows and not personalities…), America Ferrera over Tina Fey or Mary Louise Parker, Sally Field over, well, any of the other options,. And yeah – The Sopranos winning best drama was hardly a surprise, even if the last series wasn’t as highly rated as previous ones… it could’ve always ended up being an everybody loves raymond type fiasco.

The one good win for the night? The Daily Show. Keep on rocking, Jon et al….

Looks like next summer will get off to a better start than this one; http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/ I'd much rather watch Robert Downey Jr. tossing off one-liners and being a bad-ass than watch Tobey Maguire try to dance. (Seriously - if you ... [Continue reading this entry]
