Nice neck of the woods

I started at my new gym today (yay!). My personal trainer is very nice, if a wee bit chatty while I’m puffing away on the machines (I understand – its gotta be boring for her while I’m working out). First she took all my measurements (which I will NOT be disclosing here) and weighed me (surprisingly, my weight is within the healthy range for my height, which it most certainly wasn’t while I was at Columbia – yup, I just converted my weight in kg to pounds, and I’ve lost 20 lbs while traveling. Rock.). Then she tested my flexibility (all good except for touching my toes, which was average, and she gave me the go ahead for the yoga class). And finally she tested my blood pressure. Turns out I’m 95/65. Now, that might be lower than my average due to circumstantial factors, or whatever causes your blood pressure to change, but apparently that’s very low and means I’m more likely to get light headed and faint. Huh. So now I’m wondering if that’s an ongoing thing or what.

Anyways – then we went to work out, and she set up a cardio program for me on 4 different machines. I ended up being fine on the treadmill, I liked the cross-trainer, I really liked the rowing machine (shockingly) and I can already tell the bike is going to be the hardest for me. I have a coupon for one free spin class, but I think I’ll wait on that till I get better on the bike. Anyways, I was surprised how much I liked the rowing machine, seeing as I’d never been on one (I only ever had to yell at people on them occasionally when I was a cox). So I’m going to go in and keep doing those, and then next saturday, she’s going to take me through the weight lifting equiptment. So – yay! Today is nice and sunny out and I had a good walk there and back (although I can’t wait for the day when I have music for the walk…)

There’s a year-round christmas store on my way home. I don’t understand how they stay in business. Also – there’s a dead mallard a block from my house. I passed it a few days ago and the male was still hanging around and quacking, which was really sad. I don’t know how the female died; it looks as if she just lay down and expired…

My computer is having power cord issues. I’m going to have to take it in to a store and see how to get it fixed.

Fun stuff: Film clips from Jesse James, including 3 with Sam in them!!

Juno; I’m really looking forward to this one. Ellen Page was fantastic in Hard Candy and I love Jason Bateman and Michael Cera. Plus – it’s been getting raves at Toronto.

Nothing is private review.

Next bond girl to be latina.

From CNN: “And most importantly, will anyone be watching the 59th annual Primetime Emmy Awards (8 p.m. ET, Fox), given that it’s airing against a big-time NFL matchup between the Chargers and Patriots on NBC?” Yes, because those two demographics so often overlap.

The Envelope has categories they wish were in the emmys here including Outstanding comeback for a show teetering on the creative and/or ratings edge.

Oh no! I found out someone who died on Lost! Dammit! After all this time of being so careful to avoid spoilers. Granted, it was someone I knew was likely, but still… ARGH!!! So – don’t look at the last one if you don’t want to see some characters that have died last year.

A poem passed on to me by my mother:

Travel

THE railroad track is miles away, And the day is loud with voices speaking,

Yet there isn’t a train goes by all day But I hear its whistle shrieking.

All night there isn’t a train goes by,

Though the night is still for sleep and dreaming, But I see its cinders red on the sky,

And hear its engine steaming.

My heart is warm with the friends I make, And better friends I’ll not be knowing;

Yet there isn’t a train I wouldn’t take, No matter where it’s going.

“she must be quite beautiful, able to handle what promises to be a physically demanding role, fluent in English and, last but most certainly not least, a great actress.”

A Bond girl? Please. Besides Halle Berre, which of them could act? Even Jane Seymour was wooden as a stick in her Bond days….

Besides, here in New England, the Patriots are next only to the Sox as a religion; and both beliefs are held more strongly than R. Catholicism….so there could be a teensy overlap.

I always thought (stereotypically) that only men watched football, but that’s not true around here! Of course the stereotype of Manly Men not watching award shows may still hold true….

The only person he hasn’t said that Shimmy is NOT (yet) is Teresa Wright. Still a contender, then? Having already spent a few hours combing the internet, I’ve pretty well drawn a blank….

Noah’s Ark? Is that a clue? OK, now you’ve got me going again. Ethel Waters? She was a famous singer, and was nominated for both an Oscar and an Emmy. There’s someone named Arch Hall, Sr. (correct dates) who was billed as lots of different names, including “William Watters”.

Red Buttons (unlikely, he had a couple of kids and a wife). There’s about 100 actors/directors/etc. whose last name is “Flood”.

There’s an Ivory Ocean (what a name!) who seems to be a guy.

Ethel Merman? She was a famous singer — but probably too mannish!

Merle Oberon? Has nothing to do with Noah’s Ark, but here’s what I found interesting: either because of facial scars from a car crash and/or from cosmetic poisoning, she had to be specially lit. The dates fit. Adopted two kids (married 4 times, though, which seems unlikely) At her (lawyer’s) insistence, was removed from a biography of Alex. Korda.

Ooh! I know! Maggie MacNamara (one of my very favorite actresses). Can’t sing, but at least the dates fit. Has nothing to do with Noah’s Ark. I’m really getting desperate, here….

    Marjorie Rambeau? (sounds like..rainbow?) Sheesh…

I’ve got it! I’ve got it! Jean Hagen. Singer (in the Rain). Interesting tidbit: “A prolonged illness necessitated her early retirement in the mid-60s with her entering a convalescent home for the rest of her life.” Nothing to do with Noah’s Ark, though.

I even found an actor named Tim Flood and a movie entitled, “Deluge”. No luck… *sigh* I give up….

It’s true that being a good Bond girl doesn’t normally mean you also have to be able to act well. Still, I think the direction that they’re heading in with Daniel Craig is better acting and more plausible (for Bond) storylines. Eva Green is quite a good actress and she was the first in this new series.

I still don’t think that anyone who is going to watch the Patriots would also be interested in watching the Emmys (and visa versa).

I totally don’t get the Noah’s ark thing. 2 water movies? At least it’ll be revealed on Wednesday.
