At first we thought the Chinese officials who were saying accomodation was a problem were perhaps looking for a way to back out of having our *large* politically incorrect family turn up on their campus (without losing face). But we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and offered to find our own accomodation – that way it needn’t have been a problem for them. Because we really do want to go. But apparently it’s all part of the package. We get looked after. Someone even cooks for us. So now I really really really want to go!!!!
One of the apartments is in the process of being upgraded. They want us to have that one.
Problem is, noone seems to know when it will be completed. Neither emails nor face-to-face conversations seem able to elicit any more information.
We all continue to hope that it will be done in time for the September semester.
But we’re starting to talk about “Plan B”. That is to say, we have at least acknowledged we just might need to come up with a Plan B. But not quite yet. We’re still hoping…..
