Just The Facts

Thessaloniki, Greece

Knowing Jboy13 had been taking notes as we drove, I asked him for blog-inspiration, “Did you write about the tunnels in your journal?”
”Just the facts. Not much really,” he succinctly replied.
And so you get Just The Facts.

Tunnel 1: 201m
Tunnel 2: 500m
Tunnel 3: 500m
Tunnel 4: 2.2km yes, over two kilometres!
Tunnel 5: 175m
Tunnel 6: 285m
Tunnel 7: 145m
Tunnel 8: 280m
Tunnel 9: 210m
Tunnel 10: 275m
Tunnel 11: 231m
Tunnel 12: 806m
Tunnel 13: 120m

Not much really!

Not much to say about Thessaloniki either. We arrived at peak hour (of course). There were roadworks (of course). Cars were double-parked everywhere (of course). Police directing traffic did not separate us (for once). Parking was impossible (as always).
It took us an hour and  a half to drive through town. We ate a slice of bread and handful of grapes for dinner at the side of the road before the kids lost the plot rumbly tummies made for ugly backseat scenes…..and then drove on, looking for somewhere to sleep. Before entering the city we had said that if we saw nothing we would not mind as the rest of Greece had been so good. We didn’t see much! But we now have a little more context into which to put the letters written to the folks at Thessaloniki. We can see the curving harbour with the hills rising quite steeply behind. We can imagine what might once have been here:

Not much to say, not even many facts.
We got stuck behind a turnip truck.

We made a few miles (270km) and nothing remarkable happened (unless you count the fact that The Mother took the lead for the first time….and the last time….she’s not keen on leading when directions from the back van overrule her instincts, another unremarkable fact.)

The End.
