Yamanashi Adventure Day

The day started off like any other on the farm.  I woke up, ate breakfast and started to work on something that would help the farm out.  I took advantage of the perfect day and shot a couple panoramas for the café.  While I was wrapping up the last few couple angles Jake showed up and asked me to help him move some large logs pack at his house.  Nothing too exciting about the work, but it did put us near a samurai village.  Jake stopped in to talk to a couple friends and left me a good hour to wander the museums, shops and quaint streets of the traditional thatched-roof village.

We stopped back at the café to pick up Adam and proceeded to drive up Mt. Fuji for an afternoon hike.  Not bad for a work day, eh?  We stopped our ascent before the commercialized fifth station and pulled into a deserted parking lot that Jake pointed out.  After a short hike through the woods we came upon a banzai forest and a few spectacular views of Fuji’s summit and the mist-shrouded valley below.  Jake led us off the beaten path us further into the overgrowth and we came across the hidden moss forest.  There is a thick tree canopy and nobody ever ventures into it so there is a layer of moss coating the ground as far as the eye can see.  On the way back we took a short respite at his friend’s guesthouse and were offered tea and snacks before the drive back down to Narusawa.

Aside from a teaching a small English language class that Jake hooked me up with, I spent the rest my time at the café wrapping up loose ends and packing for a month and a half of travel through Japan.  On Friday I leave for Tokyo again to hang out with my friends and see whatever stupid tourist stuff left on the checklist.  After a week or two it will be time to head towards Kansai to spend a month at Kyoto and Osaka. for Tokyo again to hang out with my friends and see whatever stupid tourist stuff left on the checklist.  After a week or two it will be time to head towards Kansai to spend a month at Kyoto and Osaka.
