Carols by candlelight

Have I mentioned its too hot for Christmas?

Last year by this time, me and D were in the outback slow cooking and having a blast. This year I am trying in vain to get excited about christmas. Its just too hot - I can't get used to it. The weather is fab - but it just doesn't feel Christmasy.

I'm not the only one who feels like this too - basically all the non-aussies I know are feeling like its the wrong time of year for Xmas trees, decorations etc etc

That is until we decided to head off to the Domain for Carols by Candlelight.

Apparently it was the biggest year ever - thousands and thousands attended - it was like a festival and unlike anything I've ever seen before. You certainly wouldn't get thousands sitting on the grass in a gigantic sing-a-long in England in December :oP

The entire event it broadcast live on chanel 7 - and as such there were many "celebraties" on offer for us. we had:
The former Miss World (Jennifer Hawkins)
The wiggles (apparently famous world wide - so you may know them?)
Shannon Knowle (former runner up of Australian Idol)
some italian opera singer I can't remember the name of and...

*drumroll* The Hoff!

yup - thats right - Mr David Hasslehoff himself sang "We wish you a merry chrsistmas" to close the whole event.

After the first song had ended the three of us were well and truely hooked - we got on our feet waving the candles in the air - we sang our hearts out until we were hoarse. There were song-sheets provided and we threw ourselves into it.

Thousands of people (well - thousands of candles glowing in the dark as you couldn't see the people) singing christmassy songs together on a warm Saturday evening in the centre of Sydney really got me in the christmas spirit (the beer probably helped too)!
So eventually it turned into a fairly tipsy giggle fest:

and finally: ok the pic is shockingly bad - but if you look really closely, squint, and give it the benefit of the doubt =- you can just about make out the Hoff on the big screen!

Now I can happily shop and post cards etc.

** note: its now only a week till xmas - your card WILL be late!!! **
