Singapore…like being mugged by a very clean and tidy assailant.
Sweet baby heyzuse, the further down you go in S.E.Asia the more things cost. First of all there was the no air-con for under 20 squids in Malaysia (as opposed to the deal in Vietnam-see below) and now, in Singapore, we’re paying 10 pounds a night each for a 12 person dorm. As opposed to Vietnam when it was 4 pounds a night for our own room, cable T.V., air-con, hot water en-suite and fridge. Luckily, the dorm we are staying in, at a hostel called The Inn Crowd is really clean and nice, and the majority of people on our dorm seem to be young couples like us.
We’re staying in Little India to try and experience the heart of the Deepavali celebrations. The streets are well decorated and the place is packed with tourists, both western and from nearby Malaysia. It promises to be a very fun (and colourful) few days. Staying in Little India has other perks, of course. Curry. Sadly, this is Singapore so the curry here is five times the price of other places. I took out $150 about 4 hours ago, I have $12 left.
Whine, whine, whine, moan, moan, moan. It’s just a shock, you know?
On the uber plus sides, Singapore is very clean and tidy, from the little we have seen so far. Tonight we are going to the Night Safari Zoo to see lions, tigers, lepoards, the whole enchilada. Similar to K.L. the public transport system here is meant to rival (or dare I say beat) the London underground for convienince, so we will hopefully see a whole load of the city before it’s time to jet off to Oz.
Australia, not long ago it was a pipe dream, now it’s two sleeps away. Go figure.
