Radical Change of Plans
I don’t know if regular readers would have got this but Australia isn’t for us. There, I said it. I’m an English person and I. Do. Not. Like. Australia.
I’m not even ashamed.
Therefore, we have devised a plan. It is rather elaborate but it will certainly get us well away from this country.
We are going to Guatemala -once rated one of the most dangerous places in Central America, although it has apparently calmed down significantly now. We will then work our way down to El Salvadore eating tortilla’s and refried beans as we go until we hit San Salvador, at which point we will fly back up to LAX and continue with our round the world ticket.
I’m shaking with excitement at what this new development will bring. The original plan was to spend 6 months here (until May) and then go Fiji-LA-NY-Home. But now, we’re going latin, baby. Arrrrrrrrriba!
Look forward to your postcard mama.

Wow! You do not like Australia? How come? What’s the story? This is the first blog I’ve read that someone did not like Australia. Curious.
Hi Rebecca, thanks for posting a comment. Tried to email you back but it all went a bit wrong so I thought I’d leave a message on here and hope you read it.
Oz is, well, it’s alright. It’s safe and normal and has nice beaches and looks like a holiday resort nearly everywhere you go. It all feels a little bit like uni but with beaches and sun. Fun and all, but this is our big year travelling and I kinda demand something more than this, in Cambodia -for example – I distinctly remember the moment when I saw the sun creeping around Ankor Wat and illuminating a field full of animals that I’d never seen before, awesome. I know people say ‘well go to the bush in Oz to see something different’ but ultimately, I can’t escape the feeling that if I do it’ll just be to meet a bunch of toothless bogans telling me how much they hate muslims and Asian people, something I can’t be bothered to risk happening with time and cash constraints.
I know I’m very much in the minority, but then again I LOVED Vietnam, and I’m in the minority there too, so I would broach it as a possibility that my opinion is not one that should be taken.
I’ve been reading your blog for a while and it’s been keeping me going as I fly pretty much the same route starting in April. Good luck with the change of plan and don’t be afraid to post more pics!
Thanks for the post and the luck. I bet you’re so excited! If you want to know anything specific about the trip then don’t hesitate to ask.
Still a bit shocked that people who aren’t my family read this blog. I’ll get more pics up asap!
Just trying to massage the ego! lol I’ve been forcing the girlfriend to read it – she’s under the impression that we’re the first people since the war to go to Vietnam and that no-one could ever traverse SE Asia etc. One quick question – You not a little upset about skipping Fiji out? I’d be gutted to lose the Cooks on our trip.
