Some photo’s

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

For those of you that aren’t on Facebook. Remember gang, click on them to make them bigger! All photo’s with water in them were taken in Laos. The country isn’t flooded or anything, it just so happens that they came out that way. The rest are from Thailand.

Muay Thai

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Last night we went to see the Muay Thai boxing, a veritable smash-fest of lightning-fast punches, powerhouse kicks, and used-up fighting cliches. It really was a violent as I imagined it would be, though. There were 7 fights in total and I think 3 of them ended in knock outs, with one of those, the last one, being a full uh-oh-he-might-have-stopped-breathing knock out. There was even a farang (westerner) fighting, a plucky Irish guy, and although he lost on points, I’m sure you can imagine the ruptuous applause of the mostly farang audience.

The fights were fast and brutal, with plenty of WWE style cheers from the crowds. Excitingly, Lauren and I are staying just near the gym where the fighters train when we get back from Ko Pangyan, so we are both planning on training with the best the island has to offer. I’ll be a super-ninja by the time I leave Thailand.

After the fights we went and partied on the beach (occasionally refered to as beech throughout,) and in the whole of the world I managed to meet someone who is good friends with an old uni-friend of mine. Seriously, what are the chances?

Tomorrow I begin my PADI course I think it’s 4 days long of holding my breath underwater or whatever, I get a nice certificate at the end.
