Same, Same, but different! Not sure what that means but it’s on thousands of T-shirts in Cambodia & it pretty much sums up my waiting game. Same old waiting game, but different as, guess I miscalculated the extent of age discrimination in Asia, just as bad as in Canada & I’m not going to be happy […]

Reading posts on Trip Advisor has gotten me thinking about the meaning of friendship & the difference between friends, frens & acquaintances. Some claim to go to a resort for a week or 2 & make good friends with staff in that period of time. Then there’s people with 200, 400 or even 1000 Facebook friends. To me a […]

Yep it’s a great society we, in the west, have let the government simple serpents fashion for us. When times were good, before capitalism ran amok, we in the middleclass were too busy living the dream to pay attention to the increase in the simple serpent sector, where more & more, of these nonproductive citizens, waddled up to the […]

In June 2008 Daryl & Davy Vogel set off from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska bound for Ushuaia Argentina, accompanied by their parents, in an attempt to break the record as the youngest to cycle the Pan-American Highway. Prior to leaving, their mother Nancy had contacted GWR for the regulations of the attempt. These were followed […]

When I decided to come to Cambodia in search of a new career I allowed 2 months for it to happen. With July drawing to a close that time is & the prospects of successfully completing my mission are pretty bleak. Have made the rounds handing out my CV, only found a couple places where I was […]

With the Checker sold, mother’s affairs wrapped up (hopefully) & income tax filed (some rebates due), a friend drove me to Pearson 01:40 flight on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, with a connection that arrived in Bangkok at 10:35 a day later. Same price would have gotten me a flight on AeroSvit with a mid afternoon departure, […]

Ok so everyone has heard of eBay the internet place to buy & sell. Most praise it to the heavens. I for just can’t figure out why? Anyway I have a vintage Checker Taxi, that I have been using as my daily driver for the past 3 summers while I was in Canada, for sale. Last prior […]

So after a total of 78 hrs riding buses (that’s strictly traveling hrs, not including waiting around bus terminals) I arrived back in Peterborough ON to yucky cold 50oF, drizzly May weather (93 back home in El Salvador). Was the trip a success? A big si, yes, oui to that. The CA + Mexican buses were a […]

An example how capitalism has gone awry in America/Canada. Once upon a time there was an international bus line giving good service to both countries however the “car culture” combined with good economic times led to financial problems for the once proud Grey Dog. Somehow, known only to the bankers, the financially unstable Canadian bus company, Laidlaw was […]

Dare to be different. Drive a Checker! Unfortunately I have to find a good home for my faithful Checker. Now listed on eBay motors auction. One more week driving then Bye, bye Checker 🙁

Been on the road now for 10 days, 2 more & the Grey Dog’ll drop me off, in Peterborough, where I started my 5 country road trip from back in September. The shuttle to Antigua stopped at the Royal De Cameron in Sonsante, so got a look at it & talked a bit with the couple who […]

I just got some first hand conformation on Cambodia being a good country to gain experience in English teaching. Another Canadian expat here in Playa San Diego runs a guest house & had an inquiry to rent a room for 2-3 months, however the person needed a quiet pace where she could work undisturbed so […]

Don’t you just love the internet! While firming up the tentative routing for my upcoming epic bus trip, had pretty much decided to go with crossing at Laredo. When trying to figure the best way to cross the border I stumbled across the fact that Greyhound picks up in Nuevo Laredo, this was cool. Then a little further on […]

I have used buses in many countries of the world, the CA & Mexican systems rank right up there with the best. Have only used Canadian/US buses on a very limited basis so want to experience an extended trip to see what they are really like. The main reason for choosing Cambodia is my age […]

Think the best description for now would be, home base, still have some traveling to do before I settle down.
No regrets about bringing mother down here, while she wasn’t here that long, she was pretty much drug free at the end & herself on the good days.
