November 14, 15
On the 14th we went to go see the Valley of the Kings. We saw Seti II’s, Tuthmosis III’s, and Mintuhirkopshep’s tombs. The first tomb we saw was Tuthmosis’s. First you had to climb up a long staircase to get to the tomb. Then when you got to the tomb you had to climb down a lot of steps and cross over a pit to get to the first chamber. Tuthmosis III’s tomb was from the much earlier Egyptians so the hieroglyphics were just stick figures. To get to the second chamber you had to walk down one more flight of stairs. The second chamber was pretty much the same. The walls were covered with pictures of gods, kings, slaves, and scarab beetles that were painted. The second room had a sarcophagus in it. When we were finished we had to climb all the way back up the hot, crowded tomb. But I still had fun.
The second tomb was Mantuhirkopshep’s. It was unfinished because he died so early, so it wasn’t as long as Tutmosis III’s tomb. It had pretty hieroglyphics on the side of the walls of gods, kings, and servants. At the end there was a pit for the sarcophagus, which wasn’t there. That was my favorite tomb.
The third tomb was Seti II. it was a long passageway that started out with deep stone carving, then it was quick, simple hieroglyphics, and after that there was painted hieroglyphics. At the end there was a huge painting of the goddess Nut on the ceiling who swallowed the sun every evening and gave birth to it the next day.
After valley of the kings we went to Hatshepsut’s tomb. The driver of our taxi called her Hot Chicken Soup. We went to a cafe while Mitch went to the Ramuseum. Then we went to the Colossus of Memnon.
The next day we took a bus to Hurghada.
