Further Wanderings

No pun, not alliteration, but at least it rhymes and has good metre 🙂

Our trip to Belgrade (or Beograd, I’m not sure which spelling I prefer) may have been the first and only time where we were pleased that our train arrived 2.5 hours late. It was supposed to get in at 04:17. A particularly odd bit of scheduling given that Beograd was the final stop.

An 07:00 arrival was much more palatable, and we just spent a few minutes grabbing a drink and a Serbian SIM card for our phone before heading up to Slavja square to grab the bus to our hosts’ home. This was easier said than done, as we couldn’t rightly identify exactly where our bus stopped and which direction we needed to take it in. So it was lucky that Anja, one half of the lovely couple we stayed with in Beograd, was on her way past while headed to work and stopped at the square in order to set us straight.

When we finally did arrive at Anja and Tasa’s home we were very pleased. Their “Little Green House” as they called in their couchsurfing profile was was a charming place in a suburb of Beograd about 8km out and 300m up from the city centre, so we had a warm, comfy place to sleep and a panoramic view out over the city.

Tasa met us at the bus stop when we arrived, showed us around the house, made us cups of tea, left us for a bit so we could have a nap, then finally gave us a virtual city tour on a map suggesting what we might want to get up to in the afternoon.
