Steamy Singapore…
Wow, Singapore was a treat and I’m very glad I went, even if it was for too short a time….and even if it was incredibly hot…
Okay, technically it wasn’t hot…it was humid. It was like August in NYC…in October!? Of course, I knew in the back of my mind that they don’t have fall or winter or all of that, but it still came as a bit of a surprise.
Still, the city was LOVELY….really, such a gorgeous place. There are beautiful flowers, orchids especially, springing up like weeds from every and any bit of soil. It certainly adds a colorful touch.
Also, it’s incredibly clean. …like SCARY clean.
I kept thinking it must be a land of magic fairies because, strangely, you never really see anyone cleaning. Actually that’s not true…I saw a lady shining the advertisement posters in the metro…and a bit of sweeping here and there. But it’s so over the top spotless, well, it’s a little disconcerting.
Now, I promise to post pictures and tell a bit more about Singapore, especially about the amazingly nice people that live there, but I’m in a bit of a rush at the moment.
Just so you know, I’ve arrived safe and sound in Sydney, truly the other side of the world! (I saw a sign yesterday that said NYC was 16,000 Kilometers away….sounds even further in kilometers, doesn’t it?)
I seem to have chosen another wonderful destination with friendly folks and beautiful sights. I’ve already been offered tours by 2 locals, gotten a free club entry out of a nice bouncer, been bought a few drinks and seen a ceaseless parade of smiles since arriving. I’ve only been here 24hours…
One last thing: terrible news about the earthquakes in India/Pakistan/Afghanistan. I suspect I’ve seen more on the news here then the good ol’ US channels are showing, but it’s true devastation and so heart-wrenching to watch the video footage shot during the quake. Still, workers are pulling people alive from the rubble more then 24 hours after…I wish them continued success. More then 20K people have died! So many families have lost loved ones. It’s tragic. Thoughts and prayers go out to those affected.
May you all remain safe, wherever you are…
Lots of love to all of you back home…
