Sometimes all it takes is a good kick in the pants…
As I’ve grumbled a bit about my current situation, I knew it was only temporary…now, even more so. Someone went ahead and put the final nail in the coffin.
When I arrived to work today, on a sunny Sunday morning, I was running. I was late.
Unfortunately someone had a heart attack on my train this morning, poor soul. Before I had a chance to explain my 15 minute tardiness, my manager decided it appropriate to chew me out in the middle of the store, in front of staff and customers alike.
Now, I don’t mind being reprimanded for being late but this went beyond that. My manager stated that I was late every single day (not true), that it was inconveniencing his (true, today, yes) and asked “Do you even KNOW what time you have to be at work?” (just plain rude!)
My first reaction was to laugh, because I am not, not, NOT late every day and I thought he was taking the piss…which he does sometimes. But as he continued and I realized he wasn’t joking…well, I almost quit on the spot.
My job is a farce. It was supposed to be temporary, only a month. But I’m going on three months…plus they switched my job entirely and I enjoy it not one little bit.
I’ve been tossing around the idea of quitting but now I know the time has come. It’s not as though I’ll miss my paycheck…it’s virtually non-existent. So tonight I am sitting, half watching the Oscars, deciding what to do next. As you can probably guess….I’ve got several travel sites open. I’m still dreaming about a quiet place to go and write…but I wouldn’t mind visiting friends either.
So…it seems things are a changin’. And boy, am I glad.
