last minute messes

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

I’m doing my packing- still. And piling my trash by the door. But what I need to be doing is actually packing. And studying. And figuring out where I’m staying tomorrow night.

Ok, and getting ready to go out. And alerting the CC companies that I’ll be travelling, so they don’t cancel my cards when I have charges on both sides of the earth. And culling my packing list- I don’t need 3 black shirts. Not even I need that much of the same thing.

Packing list so far is kinda lame-

  • 2 bras
  • 1 tank top
  • 1 set capeline long underwear- for warm and sleep
  • 1pr thrashed jeans
  • 1 skirt
  • panties- lots
  • 3pr socks- 2 black, one green with toes
  • 4 shirts- 3 black (long, short, medium sleeves) one blue turtle neck
  • 1 hoodie
  • 1 cool black jacket
  • flip flops, sneaks and heels- I think
  • PDA, cell and chargers
  • drugs
  • toiletries and stuff
  • spare contacts- will change them when I get to NY
  • passport and cards and stuff
  • back pack
  • 2 books, pen, pencil, sharpener (if I can find it), eraser, calculator
  • chemistry binder
  • purse

wow- that’s actually a lot of stuff. I’ll have to see how it fits. I’m not checking anything.

But right now I have to shower, ’cause I’m going to meet the boy at 6:30- and it’s about half past 5 now! Ack!!!

Wellington weather worries

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

With just over a week untill I leave (no, no packing yet) I’m starting to worry about the weather in wellington. It’s been really nasty lately, and they keep shutting down the airport. I’m hoping that leaving at 6.20am will make my chances of getting out on the right day better, but something like 80% of travellers have been re-schedualed due to the wind and whatnot.

The ferries haven’t even been running. One ended up taking 9 hours for a 3 hour crossing- thanks to 9m waves in the straight. The captain pulled over somewhere for a couple hours, or there’d probably be some huge news story about how *another* ferry was lost on that crossing. They seem to lose one every 10 or 20 years. They’re probably due.

But don’t let that worry you- California’s due for a 9.5 or 10.0 ‘quake soon, and the people there haven’t all fallen into the sea yet.
