NY

November 9th, 2006

So I finally got here. Someone told me it’s supposed to be autumn. Dirty stinking liars. I brought cold weather clothes, so, of course, it’s like, 70 out. I’m baking. and not in the smot poking kinda way, either.

But, damn, I missed it. I mean, $1.85 for a donut and a biiiig cup of very hot coffee. And doritos, and pizza, and bagels, and….

Um. Sorry. I get a bit distracted. Wonder off about food. Just smack me. Or something.

So yeah, I’m here, finally, after about 600 hours in airports, and LA. And I’m damned well gonna have fun. even bought myself some huge but ugly sunglasses. Why isn’t m,y school in NYC? Ah well, I can always move back when/ if I graduate.

Staying at Jazz on the Town. Not bad. Not big- it’s a neat old building, tho. And only a couple long blocks to union square.

Ok, back to eat- er… I mean sight seeing.

forget lost- try trapped

November 8th, 2006

I’m stuck at LAX!

I hate LAX!

whoever ordered up airport wackyness for 48 hours into my trip home is now also on my magic hate list.

Maybe we get to board and go soon now. I hope.

last minute messes

November 5th, 2006

I’m doing my packing- still. And piling my trash by the door. But what I need to be doing is actually packing. And studying. And figuring out where I’m staying tomorrow night.

Ok, and getting ready to go out. And alerting the CC companies that I’ll be travelling, so they don’t cancel my cards when I have charges on both sides of the earth. And culling my packing list- I don’t need 3 black shirts. Not even I need that much of the same thing.

Packing list so far is kinda lame-

  • 2 bras
  • 1 tank top
  • 1 set capeline long underwear- for warm and sleep
  • 1pr thrashed jeans
  • 1 skirt
  • panties- lots
  • 3pr socks- 2 black, one green with toes
  • 4 shirts- 3 black (long, short, medium sleeves) one blue turtle neck
  • 1 hoodie
  • 1 cool black jacket
  • flip flops, sneaks and heels- I think
  • PDA, cell and chargers
  • drugs
  • toiletries and stuff
  • spare contacts- will change them when I get to NY
  • passport and cards and stuff
  • back pack
  • 2 books, pen, pencil, sharpener (if I can find it), eraser, calculator
  • chemistry binder
  • purse

wow- that’s actually a lot of stuff. I’ll have to see how it fits. I’m not checking anything.

But right now I have to shower, ’cause I’m going to meet the boy at 6:30- and it’s about half past 5 now! Ack!!!

Wellington weather worries

October 29th, 2006

With just over a week untill I leave (no, no packing yet) I’m starting to worry about the weather in wellington. It’s been really nasty lately, and they keep shutting down the airport. I’m hoping that leaving at 6.20am will make my chances of getting out on the right day better, but something like 80% of travellers have been re-schedualed due to the wind and whatnot.

The ferries haven’t even been running. One ended up taking 9 hours for a 3 hour crossing- thanks to 9m waves in the straight. The captain pulled over somewhere for a couple hours, or there’d probably be some huge news story about how *another* ferry was lost on that crossing. They seem to lose one every 10 or 20 years. They’re probably due.

But don’t let that worry you- California’s due for a 9.5 or 10.0 ‘quake soon, and the people there haven’t all fallen into the sea yet.

study hell

October 22nd, 2006

Just a warning, for those few brave souls who actually read this thing on purpose.

But first a word on the weather- It started raining at about 12:01 sunday morning. Maybe a bit earlier or later. It is now after three monday morning. It hasn’t stopped. The creek behind my building is flooded (and also about 50′ down, so..) and it looks really neat- since usually it’s a little trickling creek thing at the bottom of an 8 foot deep or so creek bed. and now it’s this 12 foot or so deep mini-river. It is cold, and damp, and so, so, so not any kind of spring I like. Warm and raining, fine. Cold sucks, tho. Or maybe that’s just my knees talking….
Right, so anyway. I need to study. Which might happen. Which means that however much I might really really want to ramble on about ways to get to the snow fields that I still haven’t been to, or rhapsodize about my passport (still as disreputable looking as ever) or chatter about the food I’m going to stuff myself with when I get home, I CAN’T!

No, really. I actually do need to study. Not talk about how it costs $7 more to take the bus than the train to welly, or talk about the way the birds wake me up at 4 every morning.

Because, and this is the important part- If I don’t study, I don’t pass, and if I don’t pass, someone eventually figures out that I’m really not doing what I’m supposed to, and either the loan dollars stop coming, or the visa stops getting renewed. And both rather suck, yes?

So I’ll be studying all about mammals (which NZ doesn’t have, natural-like) and statistics, and p-sychology.

And dreaming of chocolate, and diet soda, and pizza, and chips, and… ok, maybe that’s a bad area to go now- since it’s 3.30 in the morning, and I *was* getting up at 8 to do laundry and study.

Oh, and to put this back on a slightly travel-y thing- there are four- no, three things in palmy to see, or so I’m told- the racing (stock cars and whatnot- v. manly) the clock tower (which they’ve torn down and are rebuilding), the Rugby museum (free!), and the computers in the public library’s community reading room, or whatever they call the room with all the newspapers ($.50/ 15 mins, or $2/hr. cheapest I’ve found in town yet)

procrastinatoring!

October 12th, 2006

I have a couple paragraphs to write on some stupid subject I have no interest in, but I don’t have time for that right now! I have to pack, get on my bike, and get my pale scrawny ass to the train station, so I can get to wellington!

What’s in wellington, you ask? well, apparantly there’s some cool motor bike at te papa, but that’s not why I’m going, nope, nope nope. I’m going because that’s where my baby is, and I damned well want it back! I’ve given in to the lure of the cheap ass monitor from trademe to get me thru untill loan time next year. I will live. Maybe.

But maybe even more important than my baby is- Bagels! yummy hot fresh bagels with yummy butter, or flavored cream cheese. Oozing yummy bagelly-ness.

Oh, yeah, and the lush shop, with the yummy smelling bath stuff, and the condishoner I lust after (in a totally non-sexual way).

Oh, yeah, and a half dozen or so booties.

Time to pack!

baseball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 8th, 2006

Now accepting donations of airline tickets from NZ to NYC for the world serious. Since the mets haven’t oopsed yet, and my tix are for nov, it’s only fair that someone send me tickets so I can have a happy life, having seen a real live world serious game at shea stadium before they shut it down. Other wise I gotta go over winter break next year… And that takes waaay too much planning on my part. smile.

So, anyone wanna send me some nice airline tickets? and baseball tickets? and money?

Even if no one sends me the rest of the stuff- money is always nice!

evil bad plans

October 6th, 2006

So, I just bought some airline tickets. Ok, so I just bought lots of airline tickets. Basically, I found what was a pretty good deal (hey, it’s spendy to get to/ from the ass end of the earth around the holidays) and jumped on it.

So I’ll be in the States (assuming they don’t reject my damned passport) from the 8th to the 20th (or so) of November. Most of that time in NY. Hey, I’m a sucker for cold windy cities with good food. But I will be in Charleston for about 3 days, mostly to pick up my golf clubs and camera, and hit a couple cheap thrift shops. Oh, yeah, and see whatever family happens to be in town.

So now it’s time to (study, study!!!) hunt down mexican food, and the best pizza, and knishs, and deli, and bagels, and bakery in ny. I think I’ll be busy for a while.

And somewhere in there, I even hope to see a museum or two. Since I sure as hell won’t be wandering the park- freaking cold, dude!

cyberspace

September 30th, 2006

Ok, there were other entries, but I procrastinated on hunting them down (surprized?) and now they are all gone. Oops.

I didn’t even do it myself.

So what’s back is what’s back, and anyone who has problems with missing a couple of my rambling, whiney, pointless posts is just outta luck. Get a shrink, you freaks.

In other news, it’s daylight savings time here now- does that make it spring?

Busyness!

September 11th, 2006
The trip to napier was interesting. We didn’t really spend much time there, though- just me, 7 chinese students, and one guy each from japan and PNG. I introduced them to headbanging. Not my fault, either. Bohemian rhapsody came on. No one had ever seen waynes world. Any of them. So sad. Anyway, Napier- Read the rest of this entry »
