Vienna, Austria. Bratislava, Slovakia.
Vienna, Austria. 5 nights.
Vienna is a very active and historical city. It has a huge buzz to the city, with the large number of tourists, and a large variety of things to see there.
The first day i was due for some relaxing, so I started to see the sights the second day. First up was to see the United Nations complex. It was rather large, and we got to see the largest conference room there. I was rather impressed with the stats the UN has and many of its operational strategies. Security seemed quite lax, and that was almost concerning.
Afterwards, I toured the historical center riding the trams and taking pictures of all the important buildings which are architecturally magnificent.
Day trip to Bratislava
It was only an hour trip into Bratislava. Customs officials just wave everyone through, and then out into something similar to the east of Austria. It turns out there’s not a whole lot of interesting things there. My main sights were the castle that looked impressive from the outside. Afterwards, I headed over to the Hall of Mirrors in….
Back in Vienna, I went and saw Peter and the Wolf, the animated version, at the International film festival then stayed a few minutes for the Orchestra shown on the giant screen. Its rather chilly here, quite a noticable from the other parts of Europe, and the first place to feel slightly chilly. You begin to nice that people are all wearing coats.
Parlament was impressive. It was based on the Acropolis, in Athen. It looked like it too, the godest of wisdom out the front, greek statues everywhere inside, with huge pillars and marble everything. Crime Museum was rather disgusting. It was like a murder museum. Lots of pictures and stories, in German. After a brief stop at a local park, massive for its location, the final stop was the Silver Museum, Sissy museum and the royal appartments. Sissy, the empress was a interesting story, and much of it is fictional stories due to marketing connoseurs.
Vienna cake, to look that up when I get back and see if they ship any to Edmonton. Supposed to be some of the best in the world, but never found it. Hotel Sucker near the Opera house apparently.
This Alibi hostel was really new and I met a lot of neat people to chat with. That seems to be where I spent a lot of time, or at least a good portion of it.
On to Salzburg.
