Surfs up!

I headed out from the Campsite at Mendigorria, via the local bus, to go to Biarritz.

I took the bus to San Sebastian, then since there were no buses to Biarritz until the next day, head out to the train station. She sold me a ticket to some place she said I could get a train to Biarritz. It took me a while to figure out what place she was talking about. It was Hendaya.

I got to Biarritz, and did not know where the surf camp was. I tried the tourist office, and she searched everywhere but could not find it i the phone books, tourist guides or anywhere. I decided to opt for a internet cafe, because thats where I booked it. It was closed. I went back, almost closing time, and she search again. I was ready to give up and go to a hostel. She phoned a friend on the internet, and eventually, that friend found the Smashedtravel.com for smashed surfing and phoned her back. They did not have an address on their website, just a phone number. I phoned from there and it was at a campsite just outside town. I was soo happy to find it.

First day, there was no surfing, as he said the conditions were shit. We went to town, and in town there was a few people surfing. At night they organized a huge party in San Seb, and I took a wander around before the all you can eat and drink time at the bar.
Biarritz is a neat town because its a blend of French and Spanish culture. Really neat because of this. And there were people surfing, so I watched that for a while.

The second day we had surfing trip at noon. The waves were not that good, so we left after about an hour. Back at camp, I headed out to the local beach with a board to try there. The wave were better, but insanely crowded. I got cold without a wetsuit this time, and decided to call it a day. More people went surfing after dinner, with low tide, the waves were great!

The third day we took a short trip out to a beach down the road. Ran into a lot of surfers as usual, surfing schools. One guy who worked there was describing how they are a surf camp, instead of official school, so they get to do things differently because its a loophole, and all the locals hate them for it. Caught a couple of waves, there were a few decent ones.

Happy with that effort, I have decided to suspend surfing for the meantime. Its pretty fun, i could see trying it again. Sure beats lounging on a beach. On to San Sebastian to go to Paris.
