A weekend that made me smile…

It was a good weekend, not unlike any other weekend, but it ended with a smile…

Friday work had their Christmas party in the afternoon. As soon as lunch was over, the staff headed out to go back to the US, or other destinations of choice. A small group of hardcores were left tending to the bar.

It was good food, and once everyone left, there was still such a vast quantity left. I took a liking to the chicken wings, so much more rare here and they’ve never heard of wing wednesday. Lots of good wine to mix with it. I ate for a few hours, a dinner at 3:30 there, because there was plenty of food.

I headed out that evening with a few friends (alison, Emilie and ?) to go skating at the Tower of London. London has many rinks built throughout the city, this one was in the moat at the tower. It was unseasonally warm, I would venture a guess of 10 degrees. The rink was small, the ice was packed, but the environment proved to be one of amusement and merryment. I am really bad at skating, but we’re in London, and everyone is really bad, so it was a good crowd to skate in. Hey message to you buddies, let go out the boards! Top it off with some good hot chocolate and a chat and it was good fun. Skating just seems to take on a different meaning elsewhere, I would never think to do this back home. When I move back to Canada, I will take some skating lessons.

Saturday we ventured out to a Christmas dinner over at Jess’s place. She has a bachelors suite, and its really nice. Nice touch on the pink lights. The food and alcohol were plenty… and the food finally got served once Mindaugas and I got the women out of the kitchen. And stay out! Except for the burnt strudels. It was nice visiting everyone and meeting a few new people. Afterwards we headed out to Walkabout, the norm, and chilled there for a little while before heading home. I tried drinking a lot really fast, because I thought everyone else was drunk. Its the first time i’ve missed my stop, ended up in Stanmore, a ways away but really fast once you find a bus to get back.

Sunday, met up with Carmen and Nathan in Camden town for dinner. It was their last night in London, as their visas were done and they’re back off to California. You may not party hard, but you sure do travel. They found this nice Chinese food place to eat, decent food and decent prices. We had a nice long chat of where we all went, where we are going and where we plan to go. There’s such a huge list and many places to see and people to meet. Take care you guys!

Something about the fun and the saying goodbye. It made me think. And in the end, just made me smile…
