Prague, Czech Republic

night one was spend in the hostel drinking beers. There was a very lively crowd that like to go out at night. In all, most of them were from our room. Found some half empty bars most nights, and got to see a lot of Prague at night.

Day trip – Karlstein
Next day saw Karlstejn castle southwest of the city. It was a really nice castle and palace, more the kind of castle that I like to see. They said, it was never fully taken over despite the sieges. It was built at an off angle because it was built in two stages. Its more the walls that look like an off angle, from certain vantage points it looks rather odd, from others it looks gorgeous. Inside we could not take pictures, but it had things like pieces of original dark stained wood in box like shapes that formed the inside walls for decoration and insulation purposes. The one room had closets with family crests for the nights and an original crossbow. Some imitation royal jewelry locked up tight.
Saw one guy outside the castle with an eagle, who you could take a picture with for 30crowns. Thought about it, but decided I don’t like them keeping wild animals captive. Had a burger from a nearby place that was goo, lots of goo, I wonder what it really was.

Day Trip – Kunta Hara
A church with skulls and bones. The created made crosses, lamps, decorations, strings, piles and the centerpiece a chandelier out of bones. It was really interesting and neat, and at the same time rather disgusting.
Saw silver museum and medieval mineshaft. It looked like a normal natural cave, except excavated in places, though the whole thing was actually excavated. I suppose after all the years it would have built up more mineral deposits to make it look like that. The passages varied greatly in size, most were very small.

Prague
Walking tour. I think it was the lady who spoke 6 languages fluently because her English was really bad and largely annoying. It was alright for the price though, a free tour, of course you are expected to tip.
Prague castle was pretty neat. More of a palace than a traditional castle, it hold the Guinness book of world records for largest continuous castle complex.
At night – went to go see a musical fountain, then upon meeting random Americans we went to a great bar made from scrap metal and moving machinery. Incredible.
Sex toy museum was an interesting small museum. Some things look like they would really hurt.

Met a couple of guys cycling through Europe at the hostel. Part of their motivation was watching The Long Way Around. The first night, “Chippy,” chipped his tooth on a beer bottle. His front tooth, a nice big portion. Luckily the next day he got a crown put on in the morning. He told me about his buddy, who broke his glasses, lost his contacts, the was following right behind him near the German border. He turned around and never saw him again. Funny enough, at the second night wandering around town, we ran into him with a big bunch of Italians. We all went looking for a bar, for hours, and never found it. Had an interesting run in with what must have been a hooker that night. No, don’t need anything thanks.

I had to change hostels the last day, and it ended up being most of what I did that day. Had a great duck meal. I thought 100g was too little (it is if that’s what it means), so I went with the 1000g duck meal. it turns out 1000g is half a duck. Plus bread, and potato dumplings, plus sauerkraut and cabbage. Huge meal, delicious.
