Selmat Datang, Malaysia
Or “Welcome to Malaysia”. And, I think for the first time this year, no in my life, the immigration officials at Kuani jetty are SMILING!! Not only that, but they seem quite happy to welcome us to their country and hope we have a good time. I’m still a little in shock as I take back my passport with it’s 90 day visa, and am waved past the cheerful customs officers, and out into the hot sunlight.
Langkawi is an expensive island, as it became popular after being designated a duty free zone. Now travelling almost exclusivley on recommendations, we head to Geckos on the west of the island. And spend the rest of the day on the beach, avoiding spending any money. The benefit of duty free, is that we can use the cheap beer as an excuse to toast the sunset. Unfortunately the food is expensive and disappointing, probably the first bad meal I’ve had in months. The island is fairly pretty, but there’s no reason to hang around. Next day, it’s another ferry journey to Pulau Penang, another island.
