Qantas conundrums

I’m sure everyone you talk to will have a current Qantas tale, but I wasn’t aware of mine until returning to London, where Nikki told me the plane I had been on had made the news.

We were told that because of the plane that crash landed the day before I went to Australia, Qantas was behind in its service, and the plane that we were taking home from Sydney was delayed for four hours – that meant I spent 8 hours in Sydney just waiting between flights. When we got to Singapore we were told after an hour (it was supposed to be a 45min stopover to refuel) that the flight wouldn’t leave for another hour and a half because an access panel had fallen off the plane and they had to make a new one. Our customer services manager told us this in the most upbeat manner she could muster, but I just had to laugh. There went another two hours of my life.

Six hours into the twelve hour flight from Singapore to London and I was just ready to jump out of the plane – the only thing stopping me was the flight map which told us our current location in flight was just north of Baghdad – not really a place I wanted to be more than on the plane. Because of all the technical problems Qantas has updated their monthly programme with the new films, but they haven’t updated the entertainment system itself. So I was stuck with the same line-up as on the way over. I had already watched 21 (Jim Sturgess), Flawless (Demi Moore, Michael Cane), Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), Definitely Maybe (again), fell asleep to The Other Boleyn Girl (luckily already seen it). So this time I went with Stop-Lossed (Ryan Phillipe and Channing Tatum) about the soldiers who came back from Afghanistan and were psychologically traumatised, Street Kings (Keanu Reeves and Forrest Whittaker) good cops bad cops, and Shutter (Joshua Jackson) about an evil Japanese spirit possessing their photos. All blood and guts but some nice eye candy 😉

So that was my eventful Qantas experience.
