Cheap vodka.
What can I say? Ewwww. And still I drank it. And drank it. With good enough reason, it was Joel and Ryan’s birthday and they all left the next day so we had to go out with a big bang!
We didn’t actually leave the house until half past nine, and a whole heap of friends came over too – we had 18 people in our house! It was mad, you couldn’t move around the living room/kitchen.
We caught the tube to Tottenham Ct Rd, which with 16 drunk/high people is so not cool when they’re singing at the top of their lungs. We kind of detached ourselves from the group, walking ahead as their songs echoed through the tube station tunnel.
Of course the boys didn’t know what direction to go when we finally got to the street, and of course I did because I’ve walked around that area so much. So I let them stand and argue for a few minutes then, when it looked like the whole group was finally there, I took off in the right direction. The pub was off Charing Cross Rd, so for anyone who’s read previous posts, would know that’s where all the bookshops are – of course I know where I’m going!
Anyway, everyone else seemed content with not eating anything, but Lija, Dwain and I were starving. Just down fromthe club was a small all-you-can-eat Thai buffet. Take-away plastic container for £3. Perfect. Took us five minutes to fill up and chow down.
The place where we went was called Moonlighters but known to most as Cheapskates. Although the entry is £6 or (£4.50 for students), and the lady at the door gropes your bag – totally illigal in Oz, and she took my gum cos supposedly all pubs are gum free in England. First I’ve heard and first I’ve been told. And then another pound to use the cloakroom, once you’ve finally parted with all that the vodka and lemonade was just 80p a glass, it was cheap horrible stuff in small glasses and easy to drink fast so i think we went through about 6 or 8 glasses each in two hours or so. Oops. I didn’t like the music so wasn’t really up for dancing, same with half the others. Lija and I left at about half one – we both had work the next day!
We were walking to the bus stop and this Irish guy spat out onto the street. Of course, Lija’s goes “Eww, that’s disgusting!” quite loud and he heard. Followed us to the bus stop yelling in her face, she wouldn’t let me get on the bus cos it was the same one he got on, so I had to wait for the next one. The number 25 gets us back from the city at all hours of the night, which is so much better than forking out for a taxi. Although it’s funny cos I was like the only white person on the bus! Our area is well known for its ethnicity, and so be it – all the killin’s are happening out the other side of town where supposedly most Aussies live!
I ended up having a wonderful drunk conversation with Amy – THANKS HUN! Who I haven’t actually spoken to since I left, and an email’s just not the same. Luckily it was a decent hour over there so I didn’t have to feel bad, although another reason why I hate pre-paid – it bugged out after my £10 credit was gone and I had nothing to do except have a shower and fall asleep.
I tell ya, it’s nice to hear a familiar voice, let alone an Aussie one. Even Mel, who’s a Kiwi, has a British accent to her. It’s awesome – took me several days to work it out! Never know, I could come home with some sort of British twang to my voice!
Oh and I got Em’s link about Mr Joshua Ingram, and so voted for him online as the best volunteer ever (for this year in the FTG area)! Congrats in advance – I know you’ll get it, you’re an asset to the volunteering side of Interchange. They need many more like you, in fact, cloning may just be the easier option! haha
I missed last week’s TNT boys, where I usually get my sport news from. Would love to have some scores – how did the Storm go in the rugby last week? And how are the Pies faring in Aussie Rules? And how’s you little AFL ladder going online? Who’s winning? Has Kieran Tracy been in any more plays at the moment? I don’t have Pemm’s email, can someone pass it on please I’d love to say Hi!
