Sight-seeing

Today we did the sight-seeing thing and hopped on the big bus tour, we went from the London Eye (which we still haven’t been on because it was hot but cloudy today) through Fleet Street and the commerce business part of town, across the London Bridge and back across the Tower Bridge, which are apparantly different bridges but every time an outsider talks about “London Bridge” the fancy one with the towers they actually mean “Tower Bridge”. Meh.

We got off at the Tower of London and snuck in on a tour, which was quite big but the Beefeater presented it well. He freaked out a few of the little kids, talking into a whisper and then yelling out at the climatic moment – all about executions, especially those of King Henry VIII. All interesting stories, we also went in to see the crown jewels, very pretty, very expensive – they have a conveyor belt to keep tourists walking so they can’t linger – great tactic I reckon!

From the Tower we took our included river cruise down the Thames and yeah, back to the London Eye. From there we hopped on the bus going the other way, around Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Notting Hill, Portobello Road, Paddington Square, Regent’s Park, Piccadilly Circus, and getting off at Trafalgar Square. I think it was about 6ish so we came back to the hostel and had dinner, also got jackets cos it was pretty cool and we hadn’t taken jumpers with us.

On Oxford St we visited the famous Hamley’s Toy Store – 6 levels of toys from soft to boys/girls/games. It was great, but we went to have a coffee in the cafe at the top, and here’s a Mara-doofus moment for you – I dropped the tray of coffees I don’t know how or why, but ended up burning my hand. So to add to my list of injuries, I now have a burn the size of a ten cent coin on my right hand at the bottom of my pointy finger.

We went and checked out the accomodation where we think we might be when we get back from Jersey, 6 Aussies from Perth, 4 guys 2 girls, they’re all travelling so we’d be living there on our ownish. It was a three storey place above a neon light shop, right on the main line, all nice people. But we’ll see.

In the end, we still haven’t been on the Eye hehe!

OMG – there are Aussies everywhere! We seriously can’t get away from them! Temps ok, had 26′ the other day, 20′ today. Showers over the weekend, but Lija and I are already sunburnt! I saw this gorgeous kaftan that I want to go buy to wear over my bikini cos it looks exotic – omg clare, the shops, the clothes, there’s so much i want to buy! I packed too many clothes, but i think as time goes on im gonna chuck them and buy new ones to bring home with me! How is my beautiful monster? Anything thrilling happened yet? No drowned children? Winter hols – so long, you’ll be waiting to get back to uni by the end!
    Talk soon xoxo

FYI, the real London Bridge is in Lake Havasu City, Arizona — where Russell and I built this lovely hotel.
Sounds like you’re having a great time, kiddo, even with too many clothes! Enjoy the rain — or send it down this way.
    Take care.
