Jet-lag

So apart from being in the middle of nowhere, 1/2km walk from the closest tube station, and oh yeah, the lift isn’t working so we had to lug our suitcases and packs up 3 flights of stairs, mind you, when we were coming down the YHA guy was carrying some blonde European’s suitcase up the stairs for her. Bitch. Of course, Aussie chicks can just handle these situations better, we all know that.

Talking about Aussies, the first guy we started talking to at the hostel, cos we were all in the bar watching the FA Cup, is from Melbourne, went to Ivanhoe boys, and Lija thinks they were at a sleepover together when they were 17. Small world, Aussies everywhere! But anyway, the Cup was boring as all hell cos no-one scored for the whole 90minutes of the game, apart from Chelsea’s winning goal by Drogba 25 minutes into extra time. When we joked that it was prolly Prince William handing the boys the cup, we were surprised that it actually WAS Prince William at the game holding the cup, and boy were we jealous!

Night one at the YHA was Saturday night, we really didn’t do a lot. Oh yeah, that’s right, we took a walk after dinner. We caught the bus out to the London Eye, but it was already closed, so we walked all the way back to Tower Bridge, which is prolly a 3km walk. We had had dinner at the Y, the nice chef made us spag blog, after all the Thai curries on the plane we wanted something plain, and then we got out for a while.

On our walk alongside the Thames, at one stage we had to walk further in-shore, down this dark, dank, dingy, alleyway. It was called Crucifix Lane. This is where sudden thoughts flashed to my mind and I said to Lija, Could we be in the part of town made famous by Jack the Ripper? Next thing we run into a tour group talking about exactly that, and sort of giving us weird looks, like why are two young women walking these streets at this time of night? We walked a bit faster out of there after that.

The bus and train system is pretty easy to navigate, don’t know why everyone complains. Could be my ten years experience in Melbourne plus my intimate knowledge of a Monopoly board and past ten days ten years ago spent in London, but it’s no stress!

Back to the Yha, dinners aren’t expensive, and breakfast is included in the price, so that’s great. Along with the hotel breakkie, the hostel serves a continental breakfast so we got cereal, fruit and yogurt, toast, croissant, egg ham cheese and coffee and juice already included and all on our trays, which saves having to buy lunch cos both days we haven’t been hungry till about 6pm. We are stingy and saving money!!! Don’t knock it, it works, and if you seriously try eating this much, you will believe me!

We are in a 6 bed dorm, which is ok and bearable for a couple of days. Hmm, one shower between 6 was fun this morning! I think I’ve adjusted to the time difference, but I keep checking what time it is at home which mentally isn’t good cos I’m saying, gee I should be asleep now, or i should just be waking up, etc. Meh, jet-lag is not cool!
