The Travel Routine

After four weeks on the road we appreciate even more the value of routine. It helps all of us to have a bit of structure and allows us to take advantage of the best a particular area has to offer us.

In the tropics during rainy season, the best part of the day is the morning. This family of night owls had to change our schedule to take advantage of the early hours of the day. Our day begins with a run. Mitch faithfully goes every morning, leaving about 6:15. I go occasionally. We return pouring sweat just as the kids roll out of bed. We breakfast and set off for the day by 8 or 9. Here on the island, we spend our mornings scuba diving. This leaves the afternoon free to play, work on school, blog and travel plan. During the evening we have dinner, go for a walk or read together and then we allow ourselves to watch one episode of Lost. We are almost done with season one. During a trip like this there are definitely ups and downs. On those days when we are travel-weary, knowing that we have a TV episode to watch can lift everyone’s spirits.

Sundays have become our special days. Back in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, after a great breakfast at Gato Negro we decided to make Sundays our day to go out for a big breakfast. Later that night, we added double Lost episodes. And so we began a tradition of Special Sundays.

Wow! It’s been a month already. Seems like you’ve seen and done a lot. I hope the journaling is going well for Bjorn and Emma.

Please keep us posted on your travels. We love reading them.
