On the 3rd of January we took a bus to Bergama. We hadn’t booked a place yet so we decided to check out a place called The Odyssey Guest House. It was on a small narrow street. When we got there we had to take our shoes off before we went inside. There were little shelves to put our shoes on. After we looked at the room, we decided to stay. On our way up to the room the guy who was there gave us some slippers to walk around since we couldn’t wear our shoes inside. The only reason Bjorn wanted to stay there is because it had a copy of the Illiad and the Odyssey in every room. I think that is why it is called the Odyssey guest house. When we got up to the room it was really cold. Mom and dad turned on the heater but it didn’t really work. After that mom and I went down to see the book exchange. I traded The Search For Wondla for a book called Peony. Then we went up to a lounge area upstairs which wasn’t as warm as our room but we still hung out there and had some tea to warm us up.
That night we went out for dinner at a place that didn’t have very good food. That night I got so cold I curled up in ball and buried my self under the covers. The next day we woke up and went to the Asklepion. It was really fun to play around there. There were two tunnels, a whole undergroundish area, an amphitheater, and a bunch of other ruins to run around in.
On our way back, we got a chicken shwarma. That night, we asked for more blankets. I wasn’t quite as cold with the extra blankets. The next day, we went up to the acropolis. It was a cool ancient city. There was a huge amphitheater and a bunch of other stuff. The next night, I was cold again.
The last full day we went to the Red Hall. There wasn’t much to see there. The Red Hall was pretty big itself but you couldn’t go inside. There was nothing inside, and it was crumbling down anyway. After that, we went to the market. There wasn’t much to do there either. It was more a market for the locals with stuff like blankets, fruits and shoes. Then we decided to walk down to the archeological museum. But it turned out that it was closed for restoration. So we went back to the room. The next day we took a collectivo van to Selcuk.
I had a fun time in Bergama.
