Perito Moreno Glacier Pictures

WOW. No, really. What an amazing day. Perito Moreno Glacier was spectacular, and, it most certianly is worth the trip to El Calafate.

More pictures of the Glacier

I yoinked THIS from here: With a front of 5 Km., the most astonishing is the glacier Perito Moreno that descends to the Argentino lake. In its advance it crosses the Canal de los Témpanos (Channel of the Floes) , obstructs the drainage of the Rico arm and it elevates the level of their waters up to 19 m on the normal height. Approximately every three years, the waters newly contained in the arm Rico can exercise the necessary pressure to break the wall of ice of more than 60 m of height and to spill out in the lake. The roar of the ice and the waters are such that is impossible to believe it.

Yup! Sounds accurate to me! At this time, the glacier IS blocking the water flow, and the height of the Rico arm is 6m higher than its main lake partner.

I was in awe from the moment i saw it. These pictures, just dont do it justice. But they will give you a great idea.

after the guided tour, on a leash ("hey canada, get back on the trail" and "come on canada, we are leaving") i was happy to be able to sneek back to the best viewing spot for our 3 hours of "free time". I was so giddy watching the massive wall of ice ADVANCE!

The sounds and smells of the ice were a big suprise to me. You could feel that it was alive... frequent thunderous cracks and low groans, coupeled by fantastic 50 ton blocks of ice falling off every few min. This of course , was nothing compared to the few 1000 ton blocks that fell off while i was there. It truly was stunning...

I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Tommorow, i come 400km closer to home. I am approaching the 10k km mark!

And how about that nice hair eh!?!? Pretty snazzy.

miss you
