YWAM: Youth with a Mission

Right, well, the next morning i was up at 8am to check out a school operation that was greated by volunteers. I met some of them on my trip to Samipatia and they spoke very highly of the work they were doing. This is exciting stuff, becuase one of the reasons I came here was to whitness things like this. When I arrived, to my suprise....

The school in question was a bible school at a christian mission. No problem though.. I WAS really hoping for something motivated in purely alturistic ways, but this will do!

I spoke with many people there, at the time there were two or three teams of 6 or 7 people present, so it was a great chance to talk to lots of people about what they thought of the program. Feel free to check out the website and this

The school offers a number of programs, but primarily:
Discipleship Training School, a 3 month program where volunteers (foreign) pay 500$US a month to attend school while working. Bolivianos pay less and are expected to reside onsite while they learn to love god.

Bible Study, a longer program that teaches the bible indept. Agian, students live onsite and recieve intensive training.

Once these have been completed, students are given the chance to go out and preach to the world. As is shown here, one of the aims is to convert local native peoples to christianity.

I was suprised to see that all the programs were dedicated to preaching, and they did not offer programs to enrich the material lives of these people.

Never the less, the teams are working hard to create something:

I met a nice Canadian girl, Mandy, from Alberta, she had just decided to spend another 6 months working there. It was strange to see her so starry eyed! She said that god spoke to her, and told her that it was the right thing to do. You go girl!

Well i am not sure what i think of the whole thing... perhaps i will write more tommorow...
