Santa

Well friends! I made it out of La Paz!! As it turns out the task was a little more difficult then I expected it was going to be. As it turns out, a MAJOR bridge in central bolivia was recently destroyed in a flood... and... given that I was in EASTERN bolivia, and wanted to be in WESTERN bolivia... that posed a problem. Solutions? OH YA...

First, an exerpt from the news story:

"The emergency services said at least 19 people died and 50 remain missing after a key bridge over the Chapare river in central Bolivia collapsed in the floods. Bolivia's government has declared an emergency.

Rescue teams discovered the bodies of 13 more people, bringing the death toll to 19, believed to have been travelling in a bus that fell into flood waters shortly after the bridge collapsed under a torrent of water.

Many of the missing, including three children, are presumed to have been swept away in the bus which was believed to have been carrying some 45 passengers.

One passenger who escaped from the bus said many fellow passengers had been sleeping just before the bus was carried away.

Other vehicles were also swept away after the 400 metre bridge collapse, and rescue workers near Villa Tunari continue to search for survivors."

Yikes! So.. basicly going to my chosen warm place for new years, Santa Cruz, was not going to be feasible in less than 3 days by bus.

GOOD THING PLANES IN BOLIVIA are cheap. :) I managed to squeez on standby to the last flight of the day to santa cruz. Perfecto!! I am now here. LOOK AT THE MAP! and try zooming out.

I am staying in the Hotel Excelsor for the STEEP price of 12$US a night... but i need security and a central location for NEW YEARS EVE!!!

There are a ton of parties planned here. I am not sre what i am going to do yet... I need to find some gringo parties! but... I have been chatting on here all day to Kevin and Mackenzie. Kevin, by the way, is having amazing success with a rock band he is working with, Proxyset. I just listened to some of the new mp3s, you should too. They are playing at lees palace, and at ryerson pub night at mick e finns soon... email kev or look here

I hope the parties tonight in YOUR part of the world are amazing. I promise a full report from bolivia tommorow.

SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR!!

OH YA! look at the most recent pictures of taquina and my trip from copacabana i especially like this one.

ciao!
