November 08, 2003STILL in quito, leaving soon
Quito - 08-Nov-03 I have met some great people, especially at the SAE (Nods to Spanish Meat Loving Thomas, The Lovely Savanna, and my fellow Canadian Leslie Anne) and at my new hostal, the wonderful Secret Garden (nods to Tarquin, Mike, Nada, Nancy). The hostal is perched atop the eastern hill, and has a ridiculously good view of the city. Damn. Go look at the pictures. But seriously people, if I have any advice for any of you reading this here it is. Get out of big cities, and stop hanging out with white people. I think for some they provide comfort, a feeling of connection, but thats not what trips like this are supposed to be about. :) I know, i know, i should take my own advice. Well... ONCE EKCO gets here, we are off to a cloud forest. Sweet. I´ll be sure to have lots of pics for that one. I have an opportunity to work there for 3 weeks, at the front desk of the hostal in the clouds. What do you think? Comments? Today I wandered around the city, AGIAN, but this time found a pretty cool cathedral. Overlooking the Plaza de la Independencia, Quito´s Main Cathedral (Basicila to them) is the oldest colonial church in South America (1562). And I must say... the AGE SHOWS. Lol, while it IS being restored, much of it is falling apart. Which is really scary. SCARY you say? why? because to climb the towers you must use rickety planks, and 85 degree ladders with no support. Yikes. Look at the pictures that STEVE WILL upload shortly. If you don’t see them, bug steve. Lol, sorry steve!
