Day 161: Wanaka

We drove the windy road to Fox, had a stop at Knight's Point (another lookout over the ocean) and I got bitten by vicious sandflies.

We skirted along Mt Aspiring National Park, following the river Haast valley. We got to lake Wanaka, a beautiful glacial lake, and stopped for photos at Boundary Creek. We then drove past the equally beautiful lake Hawea and arrived in Wanaka, on the lake, 4.5 hours later.

After setting up the tent in the scorching heat, we had lunch, did laundry, played catch with the pegs and drove to town to use the internet. The town is beautifully situated, with the lake glittering in the sun and the mountains behind.

In the evening, we made a great pasta Alfredo and I spent some time marking out our route up to now on the map.
