Day 185: Peak tram

We sort of pottered about in the morning, neither of us ready to face the day and get into sightseeing mode. After nearly seven months of travel, the spark has gone out a bit and both of us are now quite looking forward to going home.

Once we managed to get ready, we took the Star Ferry and the shuttle bus to go up the Peak, via the Peak Tram. This contraption is a funicular tram which climbs up the very steep slope, connecting the higher levels of Hong Kong with the commercial centre. It's actually quite scary, at some points the gradient is over 27 degrees!

The views from the top weren't all that great, Hong Kong still being covered in smoggy cloud. But every man and his (ugly, rat-like) dog seemed to be up here and we spent quite some time peoplewatching.

Back at ground level we had a drink at Mix (mine was called 'Sublime Lime' and had kiwifruit in it) and Keiron was given a big ladle with they key dangling on it to go to the toilet. He was wielding it about when he came back, looking fairly dangerous with his killer ladle.

In the evening we went for dinner at Fat Angelo's, our stomachs still adjusting and not yet ready to try Asian. Fat Angelo's was a mafia-type Italian restaurant with chequered table cloths and lots of loud families. It seemed to have a nice vibe. We had already ordered, but when the waitress came to bring the bread I had some misgivings, as I saw a six-legged brown creepy crawly scutter across the table heading for the parmesan cheese (yes, it was a cockroach).

I didn't mention this to Keiron though, and when the food came my cannelloni was quite nice and cockroach-free. Keiron's lamb was pretty bad though, very greasy and more fat than flesh. Fat Angelo must have eaten the best bits himself.
