Day 115: MIM

Without the noise of the builders, we slept even later than usual and didn't get out of bed until eleven. Everything was closed as it was another Sunday, but we had an early lunch at Greenland: a great Napolitana sandwich and a decent cup of tea.

We took the metro to Mirador, quite a bit outside the city centre, and walked to MIM (Museo Interactivo Mirador). It's a modern building made out of concrete and copper and yuou can see the snowcapped Andes in the background (properly - the smog seems a bit better here).

We went in and the place was absolutely swarming with kids, and Keiron looked at me dubiously. But as it turned out, it was fun for adults too! There were optical illusions, steady hand games (an iron pole that buzzez everytime the ring touches it - we had a lot of buzzing!), movement games (Keiron's top football speed is 40 km per hour), I lay down on a bed of nails (prickly) and we armwrestled (yes, I lost). We saw a guy strapped in a gravitational circle device which rotates in three directions. Neither of us fancied trying that.

We had an icecream (Mega Frambuesa to be exact) and sat in a cafe where there were chocolate bars and Nestlé spoons for chairs. We took the metro back and watched the world go by on the Plaza de Armas, with a girl shouting 'heladosheladoshelados' and a man shouting himself hoarse preaching the word of God.

In the evening we walked to a Mexican restaurant Keiron had been to but it was closed, so we went to Ocean Pacific's, which was kitschily decked out with alll sorts of sea themed ornaments. There was a button to call the waiter but we were way too afraid of ours to use it. He kept standing next to us, waiting for us to order, then nearly rolling his eyes when we made our choice (corvina and lomo respectively). We got absolutely stuffed again, wobbling back to the hotel like two beached whales.
