Day 111: Reunion

The day which I have been waiting for has finally arrived! In the evening I will be picking up Keiron from the airport.

Today was spent sitting around, willing time to pass more quickly. I had a sandwich at Cafe Havanna and noticed the Chilean police colour coordinates their horses. I saw one pair with white horses writing a cyclist a ticket, and another pair walking along on their couple of brown horses.

I went back to the hotel and checked out the double room, with private bathroom and it was kinda cool, with high ceilings, wooden floors, old furniture and lots of character. I had a shower and pottered around for a bit, listening to my music and dancing in front of the big mirror. But at about 7 I couldn't sit around waiting any longer and set off for an English bookshop. I could only find one where they had nothing but John Grisham and Danielle Steele.

Then I started my journey to Los Heroes and the metro was absolutely jampacked. I had my rucksack on my front, and my hand over it, but somehow a little brat of no more than 16 still managed to get the zipper undone and his hand in, at which point I noticed. I zipped up the bag briskly, looking straight at him all the time but not saying a word (I really need to learn some Spanish swearwords). He pretended to stare ahead, but glanced at me once, just quickly, so I was sure it had been him. I kept staring at him until I got out.

With all the works on the Alameda, I wasn't sure where the bus for the airport stopped, but luckily one arrived right in front of me just when I was contemplating finding a taxi. By the time I got to the airport, it was 21.30 and Keiron's flight was supposed to arrive 21.50.

I had something to eat and waited... The plane landed at 21.57 and I was trying to keep an eye on both exits. About twenty minutes later I saw a familiar if slightly longer haired head bobbing up and down. After four months of email, we were finally back together again...

It was strange to speak English and be understood, strange to see a familiar face in such unfamiliar surroundings. But very very nice. Luckily Keiron liked the hotel too and we talked a bit about parts of our trip before going to sleep.
