Day 46: Valle del Francés Hike

Slept resonably well, dreamt something about Duncan and I being part of a detective agency and having to solve a case, The Avengers style. Very odd.

The Valle del Francés hike was slightly longer than yesterday's one, but whereas Glaciar Grey was reached by 18 out of 20, only 10 people made it all the way on the second day.

I made it to the halfway point, walking with Rachel most of the way, but after that, there were lots of rocks to climb and my knees were protesting. I would have made it there, but getting back would have been a struggle, so I decided not to go all the way. Plus I was on my own again and although the trails are clear, the day before there was a girl reported missing which sort of made me worry. It turned out she was fine though, she had just gone to another campsite than her friends...

I had a nice amble back, walking back over the dodgy suspension bridge and walking through red shrubs, looking at views and big bumblebees. I had a lovely shower when I got back, but they skimped a bit on building materials and there was a chilly draught.

We were on dinner duty and as a few of us were back already, we prepared most of it. When the others got back, we had pasta and a tuna and vergetable stew, which was lovely if spicy.

The evening was spent trying to get more jokes out of Dave, Leigh getting very drunk and telling a three legged duck joke and us making fun of Keith and his surfer dude terminology ('narly'). At the end, Catherine, Duncan, Nipa, Rachel, Keith and I (Keith had no choice as we were getting drunk in the dinner tent, which was also his bedroom) polished off the wine (we even drunk the rest of the cooking wine as we were leaving the next day and it was everything must go). There was a lot of talk of corruption of a minor, as Keith is only 20 and not allowed to drink in the US.

In the end, I upset the balance of one of the benches, sending empty and not quite empty wine glasses flying and toppling over Duncan, Nipa and Catherine, which was the sign to call it quits, as it was extremely windy and very cold and very late by that time.
