Day 31, Cuban top ten

Music has been the red thread through this month in Cuba. When I hear the following songs, the memories will come flooding in.

1. Guantanamera
There is no escaping this song. It's played in every bar, every house and every person with a guitar can strum it.

2. Chan Chan
I'm not sure if this was already played so often before the Buena Vista Social Club made it famous, but now, like number one, it's played absolutely everywhere.

3. Dejame un beso, Salsa Kids
These guys are really from Puerto Rico, but it was one of my favourite songs from the salsa lessons, so whenever I hear it, I am immediately dancing again with Yoyi and Angél.

4. Son de amores, Andy y Luca
Nuelen kept playing this song at top volume so now I can't get the damn thing out of my head.

5. Ay Amor, Charanga Habanera
Charanga Habanera is hot in Havana at the moment, and I've danced to this song a great many times.

6. Dale Don Dale, Don Omar
A reggaeton song which apparently has very rude lyrics about sex and which you hear in every disco. Every man in the disco will sing along to it, the girls won't... The shoulder movement that Eliot demonstrated dancing to this song would dislocate mine in a second.

7. Callejero, Moneda Dura
It's a song about a 50 year old lady who thinks the singer is a jinetero/callejero and it's just very very catchy. I heard it in the car on the way to Viñales and I can't get it out of my head.

8. Yeah, Usher
You don't hear much US artists here, but for some reason this Usher song has made it over here, and you can hear it in every Cuban disco.

9. Loco por mi Habana, Manolito y su Trabuco
The ultimate Havana love song, and great to dance to.

10. Guizás, guizás, guizás
Made famous by Omara Portuondo and much better than the English version, which is called... perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...
