Day 27, Meeting Michaelangelo

I took the bike to immigration again. They weren´t doing anything, but made me wait anyway. Then exactly the same guy who said he couldn´t do it yesterday, filled in the form today. The only function of the other was to put a stamp on it and that was that.

I probably could have got away with not extending it, but you never know if someone at José Marti airport is having a bad day.

After, I went to the Museo Historico which has really cool views from the tower, which you get to by a rickety spiral staircase. Unfortunately it started raining when I got to the top.

Back home, the lost Irishman told me he had walked around Trinidad for two hours at about 4 in the morning. I read my book, waiting to say goodbye to Ingrid and Regis who are going to Santiago de Cuba today.

Then I slept a few hours and afterwards I walked up the hill, to see the view over Trinidad. I met Michaelangelo, who told me to go to the waterfall. I said I had visited it already, and he said I have to say ´ya fui´ which means I have been already. Sure enough, when I got back to the Plaza Mayor, a guy offered me a tour and I go ´ya fui´ and he left me alone straightaway. Very useful sentence that!

I also learnt some more Cuban slang yesterday. When the party is over and the lights go on, Elliot says they say ´Ciao pescado´ which he translated as ´fuck off fish´. At the disco, Saj was talking very loudly about the police and Elliot went to calm him down as you don´t want to piss those guys off. As much as I love Cuba, I am understanding more and more why people want out, as all the palm trees and lovely blue colonial houses in the world mean absolutely nothing if you don´t have your freedom.
