Day 11: So tired

After such an eventful weekend, I was absolutely exhausted! Spanish and salsa didn´t go very well and I went to bed really early.

But I lay in bed thinking: I am so lucky that I am able to do this. Not just travelling, but staying in one place long enough to get to know some people, to see how they live, to share their lives for a little while.

I feel incredibly privileged and I don´t understand people like the German woman, who travel to find fault with the rest of the world. She kept talking down to Ivon, our hostess, as if she was stupid and needed to be educated. But she did it in German. So who´s stupid? (Ivon called herself my Cuban Mama yesterday which I thought was really sweet so I felt a bit protective of her). I am so impressed with the Cubans´willingness to share their homes and their lives with you, indiscriminately of what you look like or who you are. Yes, they all try to make a buck out of you and sometimes that gets a bit old, but in their eyes, I am very rich. But I think they are much richer than me...

At this moment, the trip is still short enough to feel a bit like vacation, though it´s really too hard work to be called that. Getting all these new impressions, negotiating a new language, figuring things out, interpreting situations, is very tiring and you don´t get it on an organised tour.
