Same Shit Differrent Day - SSDD

SSDD seems to be my motto for my weeks here in Barquisimeto, as i have fallen into a regular routine with work and after work activities. I am more or less doing fine, but Im still board...but thats somewhat understandable given this town and that i dont know the language perfectly (though my spanish is dam good now). However, I am reminded of something my dad told me and then it all made sense. He said, "Damien, I think the only place that you are not board is Austin." This is so true...man, the more i travel, the more i have come to love and respect Austin, especially the people of Austin. So, Ive been here in Venezuela for two months now and looking back on these last two months Ive had more "I dont like Venezuela days" than Ive had "I love Venezuela days" and Ive realized that I only went to the beach one weekend, so this weekend I will change that....come hell or something worse... Im goin to the beach this weekend! In fact, after my this past uneventful weekend here in Barquisimeto, Ive decided that I am going to go traveling every weekend from now on!
Not sure if teaching (english at least) is my destiny...but it in nice to work different jobs to see what my strengths and weaknesses are. I admitt and other will surely testify that I am not the most patient person. My patience has really been tested by some of my students and dealing with the 3rd world bullshit of Venezuela, and so far Ive came out OK and with a different perspecitve, so thats good. Ive also learned that I am a somewhat lazy person...motavating myself to study spanish has been difficult, but has been aided by the lack of other things to do here (also part of why I am also learning to cook). At this point im looking foward to going to the beach this weekend, gong to see Star Wars on the 19th, and seeing Lilly on the 20th. Lilly is a lovely Colombian girl of 26 years who I met in Caracas during the first weekend of May. She is actually comming out here to see me (thats a 5hr bus ride). She speaks english, but she wont speak it around me, which i totally respect her for. For some reason, Im much more motivated to learn spanish when girls are involved.
