January 08, 2005Chillin in the DFW Metroplex
Ok, so I actually arrived at my partents house on New Years Day, as I thought it wise to stay in Austin for one last hurrah. Everyday, since then the weather has been total shit. It's been cold, rainy, and grey all week. So, naturally I'm looking forward to the 90 degree weather of Rio. I finally got me some proper hiking boots (my pinky doesn't hurt in em!) at REI along with a bunch of other useful travel garb. I basically have everything ready to go, just counting down the days. At this point I have said goodbye to everyone I need to say goodbye to, so the need to go out and chill with friends has been replaced by the need to get myself ready and enjoy the comforts of my parents house, like soft beds, lots of food, and satelite TV. I also feel inclined to share my thoughts on the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. It is a completely flat and giant sprawl of houses, apts, strip malls, actual malls, chain resturants, chain stores, billboards, pretentious people, and a vast network of highways filled with automobiles that connect them all together. I love my family and friends dearly, but I can't fucking stand the Metroplex. It has no soul what-so-ever and reeks of misery. Austin on a bad day is better than Dallas at it's best. Comments
