December 10, 2004Bio
I have been wanting do the long term backpacking thing ever since I studied at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand back in 2002. I was inspired by all the backpackers from all over the world who I met down in NZ. My name is Mr D and I am originally from Dallas, Texas, USA but I have since moved to Austin, Texas to attend University of Texas where I got my degree in History/Liberal Arts Honors and minored in Business. After I graduated I worked for a year at a funky e-learning company in south Austin. Having been a year at a cubicle I wanted to escape and have some adventures before I become a miserable adult with pets, car payments, mortgage, debt, wife, kids, serious job, etc... I realized life is short and if there was ever a time for me to travel and learn a new language it is now while I am still relatvely young (22). I will miss Austin, but I can always come back. So I'm dropping all my crap off at my parents' house in Dallas and will arive in Rio de Janiero Jan. 9th and will stick around Brazil until Feb. 14th where I will fly to Montevideo, Uruguay and then it is pretty much an open ended trip. I'm trying to get a job teaching English in Venezuela or Colombia, but I might not be able to line it up before I split, so I'll just have to find work down there. I will miss playing my drumset, but it's a trade off...I get to fuck off in South America for at least six months. Comments |
