It seems that we're becoming used to a constant change of scenery as we've been making the journey from Utila towards Mexico City (via Guatemala). Of course we haven't been travelling for four days in a row if we can take a more chilled option of travelling for one day and then relaxing for two or three. And that's exactly what we've been doing!

After having a pleasant three day stay by the Copan ruins (in Honduras, near to the Guatemalan border) we made our way to Antigua in Guatemala (so called because it is the old capital). This city captured our imaginations, surrounded by volcanoes and peppered with ruins (caused by earthquakes during the 16th and 18th centurys), and we ended up staying an extra day to take more of it in. The difference between this and New York is that we were openmouthed with the natural beauty of this delightful place rather than the manmade structures of the later.

Currently we are back in Mexico, in Chiapas, and staying in a lovely town called San Cristobal de las Casas. Slowly but surely we are getting closer to our exit point and we are almost within reaching distance of it now (an 18 hour bus trip would get us there). Since we are meeting up with some friends in the capital this weekend, that gives us three or four days to make that distance.

We've learnt that with the little time that we have, we can't see all the facinating sides to Central America and have resigned ourselves to only tasting a small piece of the fabulous culture for the moment.
